Mama Helen Teni Children Foundation exists because we believe that poverty, abandonment or the loss of parents should never determine a child’s future.
We are building a community of love around vulnerable children and families — providing practical care today while working towards lasting change for tomorrow.
About the Founder
Mama Helen
Mama Helen Teni Children Foundation was founded from a heart of compassion and a desire to serve vulnerable children, widows and families experiencing hardship.
What began as a calling to help those in need has grown into a commitment to provide children with a safe home, food, education, healthcare, spiritual guidance and, above all, the experience of being part of a loving family.
Mama Helen’s vision is not only to meet immediate needs but to create opportunities that can transform lives for generations.

Message From Founder
A Dream became my new reality – From Passion to Purpose (2007-2017 and Beyond) From 2007 to 2017, my husband and I dedicated ourselves to helping the needy and feeding the homeless in central London. Often on weekends, we walked the streets, offering a sympathetic ear, sandwiches, hot meals, drinks, and sleeping bags to those in distress. Our journey was driven by compassion and a deep desire to make a difference.
In 2008, I began experiencing recurrent dreams that further shaped our mission. I dreamt of attending to orphans and widows, providing for their well-being, and offering them care and support. These vivid dreams revealed to me the urgency and importance of helping those in desperate situations.
One particular dream stood out: a woman with three children, homeless and hungry, needing assistance. Another dream showed children sleeping rough in an unfinished building. In each vision, I was called to act, to rescue, and to provide. These dreams became a divine mandate, compelling me to support orphans and widows.
I have continued to visit and help the homeless in London. In 2016, we expanded our mission to support widows, and in 2021, we established an orphanage. Our efforts have grown, and we now support and care for orphans, ensuring they have the resources to sustain themselves.

Our Growing Impact
We started with nine widows and now support 49 widows and numerous orphans. As a self-funded non-profit organization, raising funds is crucial to accomplishing our mission. The funds will be used to provide training for job creation, such as sewing and selling tote bags online, establishing small businesses like carpentry and poultry farming, and creating jobs to help more orphans and widows. Our rented orphanage house now shelters 33 children, with more orphans arriving every week, each with a heartbreaking story.

We harness local resources to promote self-reliance. From energy-efficient practices to sustainable food production, we strive to minimise our environmental impact and contribute positively to our community.

MHTF is an orphanage situated in Wiaga, a suburb of Sandema located in the northern part of Ghana. Our primary objective is to enhance the lives of underprivileged children by providing them with a safe haven that offers love, education, and opportunities to children aged between 3 and 15 years, who have either lost their parents or have been abandoned.
At MHTF, we are dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where every child feels valued and supported. Our team works tirelessly to ensure that these children have access to quality education, healthcare, and the emotional support they need to thrive. We believe that every child deserves a chance to succeed, and we are committed to making that a reality.
Through our various programs and initiatives, we strive to empower these young minds, helping them to build a brighter future. MHTF is not just an orphanage; it is a place where hope and dreams come alive.
